PRE + POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS
PRE + POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS
PRE-CARE INSTRUCTIONS
The following are important treatment instructions for you to understand to help avoid unsatisfactory results and complications.
Injectable fillers cannot be done if you have had any dental procedures, including routine cleanings two weeks before or after your filler appointment.
+ If you are taking medications that may prolong bleeding, you may experience increased bruising at the injection site. You must avoid aspirin, NSAIDs (ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, etc.), vitamin E, fish oil, ginger, ginkgo, green tea, garlic, ginseng, or St. John’s Wort for 10 days prior to your treatment. PLEASE INFORM US IF YOU ARE TAKING ONE OF THESE BEFORE YOU ARE INJECTED. If you are prescribed any of these medications by a physician, you must consult with them prior to stopping any medication.
+ Arnica tablets help to minimize bruising and swelling. They can be taken two days before and up to seven days after your procedure, and can be purchased in our office.
+ Clients should not schedule any vaccination or invasive procedures for 2 weeks before or after treatment with Dermal Fillers. These include but are not limited to:- COVID vaccine or Flu Vaccine- Dental cleaning or dental work- Lesion excision or biopsy- Surgery of any kind- Internal device placement- Tattoo or permanent makeup
+ If a laser treatment, chemical peel, or any other procedure based on active dermal response is considered three to seven days before or after an injectable filler treatment, there is a possible risk of an inflammatory reaction at the treatment site.
+ Injectable fillers should be used with caution in patients on immunosuppressive therapy, or therapy used to decrease the body’s immune response, as there may be an increased risk of infection.
+ The safety of injectable fillers for use during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or in patients under 18 years has not been established.
+ The safety of injectable fillers in patients with a history of excessive scarring (e.g., hypertrophic scarring and keloid formations) and pigmentation disorders has not been studied.
POST-CARE INSTRUCTIONS
+ Filler can be slightly mobile for a few hours following the procedure, so it is important that you keep your facial movement minimal and do not rub or massage the area for the first 24 hours. Regular antihistamine such as Piriton taken 4-6 hours for the first few days will help reduce swelling.
+ Avoid obtaining any vaccination, dental cleaning, dental work, lesion excision or biopsy, surgery of any kind, internal device placement, tattoo or permanent makeup for 2 weeks following procedure.
+ It is possible that you may be able to feel or see where the product has been placed for about two weeks following the treatment. Swelling is not always predictable; one side may swell more than the other and it may look or feel uneven.
+ As the filler gradually incorporates into the matrix of your skin, these signs will lessen. Initial swelling, redness, and bruising is very normal and will subside within the next 3-10 days. It is important to be patient, especially within the first 3-5 days.
+ Reduce the amount of swelling by applying cold compress in 5-10 minute increments twice per hour. Keep the lips hydrated with a simple balm such as aquaphor for the next few days.
+ Avoid facial treatments or massage for two weeks following the treatment. Avoid direct sunlight, saunas, steam rooms, etc. for the week. Sleep on your back with your head elevated to avoid pressure on the area and to minimize the risk of further bruising.
+ Do not fly internationally within seven days post-treatment. It’s all to do with avoiding the cabin pressure for a prolonged period of time.
+ Avoid the use of aspirin, ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatory drugs as these may increase the risk of bruising. Arnica creams or tablets may help reduce bruising.
+ If you experience any lumpiness in the lips, do not attempt to squeeze or massage yourself. These lumps should subside after about two weeks.
RESULTS
Although the treatment result is immediate, the overall result will look much better in about two weeks when the trauma has subsided. You will notice a considerable difference in the volume of your lips soon after the treatment is over. However, the actual result will remain hidden under the swelling and bruising during the first few days. It is quite possible that you might not even think that your lips look good. They will, of course, look much better within a few days. Therefore, patience is KEY. It takes time for filler to settle down so we ask that you give it at least 10-14 days before judging the look of your lips.
Dermal fillers are a safe and effective treatment, but there are always risks involved with any injectable procedure. Any sudden severe pain, fever, and/or chills, unusual swelling or discoloration, blanching or mottled skin must be reported to LABB as we are trained and equipped to deal with any possible post-treatment complications. Avoid spicy foods, hot drinks, drinking out of a straw and alcohol for the first 7 days.
Lip filler swelling timeline:
+ Day of treatment: Swelling is normal after the treatment. Often there is asymmetry. Please do not be too concerned about the symmetry in the first few weeks, as it is impossible to assess until the swelling has resolved. If you are concerned, make an appointment with your provider at the 4 weeks mark to review.
+ Day 1 (24 hours post-treatment): Often the swelling in the morning after the procedure is when it is at its most extreme. The upper lip will have significant projection and may be significantly bigger than the lower lip. This will resolve over time (unless that is what you asked for in the treatment!). Pain and discomfort are common at this stage.
+ Day 2: The worst of the swelling will be in the first 48 hours and often after this time, it will start to reduce over the next few days.
+ Day 3: At day 3 after the lip filler procedure, the patient may start to notice an improvement in the swelling. There may be slightly less projection in the upper lip and it will be more comfortable to talk and eat. There will still be tenderness to touch.
+ Days 4-8: Swelling will go down significantly during this phase. Your lips will start to settle in. Lumps will start to go away and people tend to start loving them.
+ Day 14: Two weeks post-treatment, the lips will be nearly settled in. A small amount of swelling may still persist, but most people feel very confident at this stage! + 4 weeks after: Most people tend to want more filler put in at this point. They should be completely settled! This is the time that the results can be assessed for size and symmetry. If the patient wants more, it can be done at this time. If there needs to be symmetry correction, it can also be done at this time.

PRE-CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Arrive on time and makeup free, if possible.
If you are taking medications that may prolong bleeding, you may experience increased bruising at the injection site. You must avoid aspirin, NSAIDs (ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, etc.), vitamin E, fish oil, ginger, ginkgo, green tea, garlic, ginseng, or St. John.
Avoid alcoholic beverages for 24 hours prior to procedure as this can increase the risk for bleeding and bruising at the treated sites.
POST-CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Redness or sensitivity may be present (and last up to a few hours).
Use Tylenol only as needed for any soreness.
Do NOT manipulate the treated area for 24 hours following the treatment.
Do NOT wear a hat for 24 hours following treatment.
Do NOT lie down for 4 hours after your treatment.
Do NOT perform activities involving straining, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise for 4 hours after treatment.
It is recommended that you wait at least 2 weeks before having any other facial treatments (i.e., facials, massages, lasers, ultrasounds, micro-dermabrasion).
It can take approximately 3-5 days for results to be seen. If the desired result is not seen after 2 weeks of your treatment you may need additional injections. You will be charged for the produt used during any touch up or subsequent appointments.
RESULTS;
It can take up to two weeks for you to experience the full effects of the treatment. Please remain patient. It takes time for the muscles to lose strength and the lines to fade following the treatment. The objective of this treatment is to improve the appearance of lines, not necessarily freeze the muscle. We strongly recommend that first time patient's follow-up in two weeks as we prefer to start with a light and conservative dose.
Be assured that any bumps or marks will go away within a few hours.
If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call at 612-605-5304. If we cannot answer a certain question, our Medical Director will be able to.

Feel free to call the clinic if you have any questions!
MICRONEEDLING
PRE-CARE INSTRUCTIONS
+ Sun exposure and/or usage of tanning beds must be avoided for about a week before and after treatment. This treatment will not be administered on sunburned skin.
+ Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, motrin or Advil for 3 days prior to treatment. These agents will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical and responsible for your skin rejuvenation.
+ Accutane and any other photosensitizing medication should be discontinued for a period of 6 months prior to receiving treatment and should not be used during your course of treatment.
+ No area to be treated should receive any type of chemical peel for 2 weeks prior and after treatment.Use of exfoliants, retinols, retin-a, tretinoin glycolic acids, kojic acids, citric acids and hydroquinone must not be used 1 week prior or after treatment.
+ Waxing and/or use of chemical depilatories must be avoided for 1 week prior and after treatment. Shaving is allowed immediately before treatment and 48-72 hours after treatment as long as there is no skin irritation.
+ This treatment is not for pregnant women.
+ Notify your provider of any tattoos, including cosmetic tattooing, in the vicinity of the area to be treated.
+ If you are prone to cold sores, take an antiviral agent for 2 days prior to and the day of the treatment. Call us for a prescription.
+ During the course of your treatments, notify our staff of any changes to your medical history, health status or personal activities that may be relevant to your treatment.
+ Bruising is a common risk especially with PRP injections. Avoid blood thinning agents (aspirin, fish oil, Omega-3 and Vitamin E) for 1 week prior. You may resume the day after the treatment.
Contraindications: Pregnancy, actively infected or inflamed skin, skin irritation, cystic acne on, keloid scars, allergies to topical benzocaine, lidocaine or tetracaine and sunburn.
Day of Treatment:
Your skin should be clean without lotion, oil, makeup, powder, perfume or sunscreen. If you happen to have any of those things on upon arrival, we will cleanse your face per usual. Inform your provider of any relevant changes in your medical history and of all medications that you are taking.
POST-CARE INSTRUCTIONS
+ Do not take any anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, motrin or advil for 1 week. DO NOT ice face or use arnica or bromelain. These agents may interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical and responsible for your skin rejuvenation.
+ Avoid sun tanning and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight for 2 weeks. After 24 hours, always use a full spectrum sunscreen SPF30 or above. We offer two SPF's that were clinically studied with microneedling; both of which are cleared to use post-treatment.
+ Use Tylenol only as needed for any soreness
+ After about 6 hours post-treatment, feel free to use a little bit of gentle cleanser, such as the one suggested to you at your appointment. Gently massage the face with tepid water (a shower can provide an easier ability to massage the face while washing at the same time), and remove all serum and dried blood.
+ Do NOT use any Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Beta Hydroxy Acid, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (in a low pH formula) or anything perceived as ‘active’ skincare for the first 48-72 hours.
+ Avoid intentional and direct sunlight for 24 hours. No tanning beds.
+ Do not go swimming for at least 24 hours post-treatment.
+ No exercising or strenuous activity for the first 24 hours post-treatment. Sweating and gym environments are harmful, rife with bacteria, and may cause adverse reactions.
Optional Dietary Recommendations:
Eat fresh pineapple, tart cherry juice (no sugar), salmon (omega-3 fish oil), and bone broth based soups. Avoid dairy, wheat and sugar!
Days 1: A sunburn-like effect is normal. The skin will feel tight, dry and sensitive to the touch. The lift serum that was sent home with you can be used immediately following the treatment. If you purchased the hydrating serum, you can also use that immediately to help moisturize the skin. These are the only two products that you should use day 1. Do not wash your face the night of the treatment as the water is not sterile. You can use a gentle cleanser the morning after, preferably the cleansing gel by SkinBetter or Gentle Cleansing Lotion by Revision as they are clinically studied and safe to use with this treatment. Follow this by using the lift serum and the hydrating serum if you purchased it or got a sample.
DAY 2-7: Peeling may start 3-5 days after treatment. You will notice skin dryness and flaking. This is due to an increased turnover of skin cells. Do not pick, scratch or scrub at treated skin! Allow old skin to flake off naturally and keep moisturized AT ALL TIMES with the lift serum that was sent home with you. Hydrating Serum by Revision is highly encouraged during this stage of healing. The DEJ Face Cream is also safe to start using after day 3. We also highly suggest the Alto Defense Serum by SkinBetter as it protects against environmental stressors / pollution
DAY 5-7: You may restart your regular skin care products and Retin-A/retinoid once your skin is no longer irritated. Many patients have noticed continued skin improvement for months following the last treatment.
For best results, we recommend using the suggested medical-grade skincare post-procedure as well as follow up and repeat treatments in 4-6 weeks. A series of 3-5 treatments depending on your personalized care plan is best.
Always feel free to call or email us with any questions! We appreciate you and look forward to helping you achieve your skin goals!
